Meet new board member Debra Potter

She’s the Director of Community Outreach at Perimeter Church, a role that has her interacting with and maintaining relationships with over 50 community partners. Meet Debra Potter, one of our new board members!

CFNEG: What do you want people to know about the Community Foundation?

Debra: It is SO MUCH MORE than giving and investing money (although that is SUPER FUN too!). The Community Foundation brings people together to learn about complex challenges that face our community and then provides meaningful ways for them to lend their gifts, skills, talents and treasures to truly make a difference.

CFNEG: Why is being involved in the community important to you?

Debra: Being involved in the community is important to me because I believe that God created all my neighbors uniquely with a purpose only they can accomplish using their specific gifts, skills and talents. Many of our neighbors need our help to remove barriers and create or connect them to opportunities so they can reach their God-given potential.

CFNEG: What do you hope to accomplish as a board member?

Debra: I hope to learn about and empower our nonprofits in their important work and help our fundholders discover the joy of doing the same.

CFNEG: What other causes are you passionate about?

Debra: I personally invest in causes that remove barriers for children to reach their God-given potential. Organizations such as Street GRACE (ending the commercial sexual exploitation of children) and Promise686 (caring for vulnerable children).

CFNEG: What do you enjoy about your career?

Debra :I have the privilege of serving alongside over 50 incredible nonprofits and hundreds of wildly talented and passionate volunteers, all of whom are seeking the flourishing of individuals, families and the city. Seeing how God uses ordinary people like us to accomplish extraordinary things is just AWESOME!!!

CFNEG: Tell us about your family

Debra: I have been married to my husband and best friend Todd for 20 years and have a 14-year-old daughter, Lindsay. We have super loving dog named Snowflake.

CFNEG: What do you enjoy doing in your free time?

Debra: I love having friends over and sharing good food. I also enjoy riding along in the golf cart watching my family golf.

CFNEG: What’s one thing people would be surprised to know about you?

Debra: I am an introvert. Being alone with my coffee and a good podcast is my idea of fun.

CFNEG: One book or podcast you think everyone should read/listen to?

Debra: Oooo, can’t decide on one here! Podcasts:  “The Happy Hour with Jamie Ivey” and “99% Invisible”! Book: “Bowling Alone” by Robert Putnam
