Matt Benvegna: Multiplying Goodness through Community Foundation
For Matt Benvegna, giving isn’t just an act of kindness; it’s a core value that shapes his life and legacy. As a donor-advised fund holder with the Community Foundation for North Georgia for nearly a year, Matt is dedicated to making a lasting impact on his community, particularly in supporting local youth and underserved children.
“Giving really is the key to success,” Matt shared. “It’s a universal law. The more you give, the more you’re going to receive because you reap what you sow.”
Matt’s journey with the Community Foundation began when he sought a structured way to give back. The Foundation’s network, expertise, and the opportunity to make a significant community impact were pivotal in his decision.
Matt’s DAF allows him to support multiple causes without being tied to one specific organization. “You get the support of the foundation and have an opportunity to make new connections, learn about new opportunities to give, and be involved in that kind of community of people who are really making a difference.”
Matt and his wife, Janelle, are particularly passionate about supporting local youth and underserved children. Their fund is geared towards organizations like Corners Outreach, which offers education and tutoring to Latino students learning English.
“Research shows that when students fall behind, they end up dropping out of school by the 9th or 10th grade, if not sooner, and then they end up in jail,” said Matt. “Corners does a great job at really breaking that cycle and providing for not just the students but their families through employment opportunities and education.”
This cause resonates deeply with the Benvegas, and they have witnessed the effects of their donations firsthand. “We used to go to church at Corners Church and that’s how we became familiar with Corners Outreach. Seeing those families directly impacted, not just the students, but the mom and dad, the people from Corners that cut our yard is rewarding.”
For the Benvegas, philanthropy is a family affair. Matt and Janelle involve their three daughters, Leilani, Charlotte, and Joy, in their giving activities, teaching them the importance of service and generosity.
“I think this is a great opportunity for us to kind of show our children what giving and serving looks like,” said Matt. “Being able to get involved with them and go volunteer, this is something that can be passed down to them as well.”
Matt hopes to inspire others to embrace the spirit of giving. “Being able to bless other people and give them what you have and make a difference – that’s what makes life special and meaningful.”
