Meet Board Member Cheryl Johnson

Cheryl is one of our newest board members and serves as the brand ambassador of Street Grace. She was the founding CEO of Street Grace and is married to Ernie Johnson, an award-winning sportscaster for Turner Sports and CBS Sports.

CFNEG: What’s your favorite memory of living in Gwinnett over the years?
Cheryl: We have many memories from living in Gwinnett and the best ones are those of family outings with the kids. Cutting down Christmas trees on the farm in Suwanee, Fourth of July fireworks and fall festivals. Gwinnett is a large county that still hosts small town family events and we look forward to attending them with our grandchildren.

CFNEG: Why is being involved in the community important to you?
Cheryl: We have always felt that, because we received so much from the community and have been so blessed, it is our responsibility to give back to the community.

CFNEG: What do you want people to know about the Community Foundation?
Cheryl: We would like for folks to know that the Community Foundation has enabled us to create a strategy and focus our giving in areas that are most important to us. We also like that the Community Foundation is supporting the community in which we live.

CFNEG: What do you hope to accomplish as a board member of the Community Foundation?
Cheryl: I am hoping to contribute to the ongoing work of the Community Foundation, specifically in the area of homelessness, and also to raise awareness about the Community Foundation’s ability to make giving to causes that matter easier.

CFNEG: Why should people give through the Community Foundation?
Cheryl: Most people are already giving in some way. The Community Foundation makes the paperwork around giving easier, vets foundations for 501(c)3 status and makes it possible to review the record of giving through the years in one place.

CFNEG: What are some causes you are passionate about?
Cheryl: Street Grace’s efforts to end the demand for child sex trafficking, and faith-based and children’s charities
.
CFNEG: Any hobbies/interests?
Cheryl: Ernie likes golf. I like tennis. We both love anything we can do with our kids or grandkids.

CFNEG: What’s one thing people would be surprised to know about you?
Cheryl: We have 6 children – four of them are adopted (and three of the four are special needs) – and 3 grandchildren.
