Q&A with Board Member Sloan Jones

She’s the associate vice president of communications at Georgia Gwinnett College and one of our newest board members. For Sloan Jones, changing her community through education is one of her passions. Read more about her in our Q&A!

CFNEG: Why is being involved in the community important to you?
Sloan: It is important that we all do our part and continue the good work that those who came before us have done to ensure this is a progressive and thriving community.

CFNEG: What do you love about your career and working at Georgia Gwinnett College?
Sloan: I have the opportunity to work in a community that values and supports higher education with the understanding that through education, we grow a stronger and more resilient community, region and state.

CFNEG: What makes you proud about being at GGC?
Sloan: During each commencement ceremony, I see the Georgia Gwinnett College graduates who are celebrated by their family and friends walk across the stage to begin their careers and shape a future that has the potential to change their life.I have such a sense of pride knowing because of the degree they earned at GGC, a world of opportunity is open to them.

CFNEG: What are some causes you’re passionate about?
Sloan: I am passionate about education and its ability to break the cycle of poverty. Individuals who earn degrees have the ability to change the course of their life and the lives of their family members.

CFNEG: What do you want people to know about the Community Foundation?
Sloan: The Community Foundation is truly focused on the community and creating an awareness around how important it is for each of us to think as philanthropists. No matter how great or how small – it is all about creating a legacy.

CFNEG: What do you hope to accomplish as a board member?
Sloan: I want to help share the good news of the Community Foundation and do my part to perpetuate the idea that it is through the collective efforts of the Community Foundation that we will impact the community for generations to come.

CFNEG: Tell us about your family.
Sloan: I’ve been married to Ed Jones for 32 years. We have been blessed with two adult children, their spouses and two grandchildren.

CFNEG: What do you enjoy doing in your free time?
Sloan: I love pottery, gardening, hiking and kayaking. I am happiest outdoors :).

CFNEG: What’s one thing people would be surprised to know about you?
Sloan: I grew up on a farm and wish some day to return to that simple, wholesome lifestyle.
